Here’s a small rant.
If you have a business partner, or a senior employee, or a junior employee, or a friend or… and they have done something detrimental to your business…or are in danger of doing so, I have a suggestion. Talk to them.
Don’t sit in your office and stew. Don’t go and talk badly about them behind everyone’s back. Don’t wait until you blow a gasket and damage the relationship. These are the tactics of cowardice.
Think about the issue(s). Think about whether it’s important enough that it needs addressing. Think about what you want to achieve. Think about who you will be speaking to and what they respond to. Think about how you can say things to get the result you want (as opposed to saying it in a way that just makes you feel “right”.) Then go have the conversation. If you decide it’s not such a big deal, then don’t have the conversation. With anyone.
I have seen many issues fester until they blow. Or that become the stuff of the gossip mill. Or that turn people into professional victims.
Remember, the view is better from the high road. Talk about it if it is important. Let it go if it isn’t. Either way, you can move on and focus on success.
This is great advice!!
I just got off the phone with a business partner and your blog post hit me right between the eyes. There are some issues that have needed to be addressed and I have been stewing over them, instead of addressing them head-on. Thanks for the words of wisdom.
This can be a little something I have to find more information about, thanks for the article.
